Getafe, Spain (SportsNetwork.com) - Valencia climbed to second place in La Liga on Monday with a 3-0 drubbing of Getafe at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez.
Coming off a comfortable 3-1 win over Espanyol at the Mestalla last time out, Valencia was in control from the outset and opened the scoring after just seven minutes through Francisco Alcacer.
The visitors then doubled their advantage in the 20th minute through Andre Gomes and Rodrigo converted a penalty kick in the 72nd minute to make it 3-0.
Just a minute after scoring, however, Rodrigo was shown a second yellow card and sent off, reducing Valencia to 10 men.
But Getafe was never able to find the back of the net, as the 10 men of Valencia held on to claim the clean sheet.
The result sees Valencia go level with Sevilla on 10 points, but claim second on goal difference, while Getafe remains with three points from its first four matches.
