Amsterdam, Netherlands – Twente midfielder Leroy Fer injured his knee playing for the Netherlands on Friday, and had surgery on Sunday that will sideline him for an undisclosed amount of time.
Fer, 22, sustained meniscus damage to his left knee in the 2-0 victory against Turkey in World Cup qualifying. He was making just his second appearance for the Dutch.
He started his club career with Feyenoord in 2007 and joined Twente in 2011.
