London, England – Tottenham Hotspur announced Thursday that it has signed striker Roberto Soldado from Spanish side Valencia.
The move, which is subject to Soldado completing a medical, was triggered by Tottenham meeting the striker's buyout clause, rumored to be approximately $40 million.
Soldado began his career at Real Madrid but only managed 16 appearances for the Merengues. He enjoyed a loan spell at Osasuna and made the full-time switch to Getafe in 2008, but the 28-year-old flourished upon his move to Valencia in 2010, scoring 80 goals in 146 appearances for the club.
