Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Titans have placed wide receiver/kick returner Marc Mariani on injured reserve.
Mariani suffered a broken left leg during the first quarter of Thursday's preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals.
A seventh round pick out of Montana in 2010, Mariani made the Pro Bowl as a return specialist during his rookie season. In 2011, he ranked seventh in the AFC with a 10.7 punt return average.
The Titans put rookie safety Markelle Martin on the physically unable to perform list, keeping him off the active roster for the first six weeks of the regular season.
In addition, Tennessee released quarterback Nick Stephens, running back Herb Donaldson, tight end Joey Haynos, wide receivers Laquinton Evans, Chase Deadder and Marcus Harris, offensive linemen William Vlachos, George Bias and Jonathan Palmer, safety Christian Scott and kicker William Batson.
