Appalachian State will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first football game ever played at Kidd Brewer Stadium when the Mountaineers host The Citadel on Saturday.

The stadium sat 10,000 fans and was known as Conrad Stadium when it opened on Sept. 15, 1962 with a non-conference matchup between Appalachian State Teachers College and Emory & Henry, which won the game, 6-3.

Two weeks later, the Mountaineers beat Elon, 27-12, for their first win in the new stadium. Since then, 215 more ASU victories have followed in a stadium affectionately known as The Rock. The Mountaineers are 216-63-5 (.769) all- time at Conrad/Kidd Brewer Stadium, which now seats 24,050 fans.

Saturday's game matches ranked teams from the Southern Conference. Coach Kevin Higgins leads the No. 21 Bulldogs (2-0) into Kidd Brewer against coach Jerry Moore and his No. 8 Mountaneers (1-1).

Kickoff is 3:30 p.m. ET.
