Krasnaya Polyana, Russia (SportsNetwork.com) - World Cup co-leaders Tomoka Takeuchi of Japan and Patrizia Kummer of Switzerland had the top qualifying times Wednesday in the women's snowboard parallel giant slalom.
Takeuchi, who shares the World Cup points lead with Kummer, had a total time of 1 minute, 46.33 seconds on the two runs. Her 52-second finish was the best on the blue course.
Kummer led with a 52.63-second run on the red course and posted an overall time of 1:46.62.
Only half of the 32 riders who made qualifying runs advanced to the next round.
Four rounds of finals will take place later in the day to determine the medals.
Switzerland's Julie Zogg was third in qualifying and defending Olympic gold medalist Nicolien Sauerbreij of the Netherlands was fourth.
Canada's Marianne Leeson had the fifth-best overall time. All three Canadians advanced, with Caroline Calve and Ariane Lavigne also moving on.
Reigning Olympic silver medalist Ekaterina Ilyukhina advanced as well but 2006 silver medalist Amelie Kober of Germany was disqualified and 2010 bronze medal winner Marion Kreiner of Austria failed to move on.
The United States did not qualify a rider for the event, which has been part of the Olympics since 2002.
