South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier says injured starting quarterback Connor Shaw could play for the 13th-ranked Gamecocks against Kentucky on Saturday night.

Shaw injured his shoulder Saturday against UCF but practiced Monday night and Spurrier says he watched the QB throw the ball about 55 yards.

The coach was given a two-to-three week timetable for Shaw's return from the training staff Sunday after Shaw left the 28-25 victory over UCF with a sprained right shoulder.

If his progress continues, Shaw could start when the Gamecocks (3-1, 1-1 Southeastern Conference) host Kentucky (1-3, 0-1).

Spurrier had no explanation for Shaw's quick return other than the injury was not as significant as first thought. Shaw is fourth in SEC pass efficiency. He's thrown six touchdowns without an interception.
