Jacob Peterson and Teal Bunbury scored in each half as Sporting Kansas City downed the Columbus Crew, 2-0, at Crew Stadium in MLS on Saturday.

Peterson scored in the opening 10 minutes and Bunbury in the final 10 minutes, as Sporting remained unbeaten in July with its second win in three matches to move three points clear of D.C. United atop the Eastern Conference.

Sporting (11-5-3) was winless in its last three June matches. Columbus (6-7-4) has lost three of its last four and has just one win in its last five matches.

Peterson opened the scoring in the 6th minute when he ran onto a through ball from Peterson Joseph and slotted to the bottom-left corner for his second goal this season.

Justin Meram headed off the crossbar early after half as the Crew almost tied the match, and Kansas City sealed three points 8 minutes from time.

Bunbury accepted a pass from Kei Kamara and scored to the bottom right for his third goal of the season to secure Sporting's 11th win.

Columbus remained level on points with the New England Revolution for sixth in the Eastern Conference.

Kansas City visits the Houston Dynamo on Wednesday for its next game. Columbus hosts D.C. United on July 21.
