Carlos Ruiz drove in three runs, two of them in a four-run fourth inning, and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Chicago Cubs 5-2 on Saturday to move closer to a .500 mark for the season.
An effective Joe Blanton got the win, striking out eight in seven plus innings as the reigning National League East champions pulled to 10-11 for the season. He was tagged for eight hits and two runs.
The Phillies, hitless for the first three innings against Cubs right-hander Randy Wells, broke loose for three hits and four runs in the fourth.
Ruiz collected the Phillies' final run on a solo homer in the sixth.
The visiting Cubs scored in the first and eighth.
