Tempe, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - The Angels signed dynamic outfielder Mike Trout to a one-year, $1 million contract, the Los Angeles Times reported on Wednesday.
According to the paper, by setting Trout's 2014 salary, the club can avoid a luxury-tax assessment this season and can continue to work toward a long-term extension with a player who has finished second in American League MVP voting in each of his first two full seasons.
Trout, 22, batted .323 with 27 homers, 97 RBI and 110 walks over 157 games in 2013. He earned the 2012 AL Rookie of the Year Award after hitting .326 with 30 homers, 83 RBI and 49 stolen bases.
