WASHINGTON – The Washington Redskins have announced the signing of free agent special teams standout Adam Hayward.
The Redskins also Wednesday prepared to host three other free agents — safety Ryan Clark, cornerback Corey Graham and defensive end Antonio Smith — as they continued a modest approach to free agency despite money to spend after a 3-13 season.
Hayward agreed to terms shortly after free agency began on Tuesday, along with receiver Andre Roberts and guard Shawn Lauvao. The Redskins also re-signed linebacker Perry Riley and receiver Santana Moss.
The Redskins did not address their most glaring need — safety — on the first day. Ex-Redskins player Clark, who spent the last eight years with the Pittsburgh Steelers, could potentially fill one starting spot. He announced his visit to Washington on ESPN.
