In what will go down as a season to forget for fans of Rangers, the club locked up second place on Wednesday with a 5-0 thumping of Dundee United at Ibrox.

The result gives Rangers five wins from six games and was never in doubt after the first 20 minutes.

Steven Whittaker's goal opened the scoring six minutes into the match, and Sone Aluko added two more in the span of two minutes to make it 3-0 to the hosts after 20 minutes.

Jamie Ness scored his first league goal in the 56th and Alejandro Bedoya capped off the scoring with his first tally of the campaign to complete the thrashing.

Hibernian 2, Aberdeen 1

Aberdeen, Scotland - Hibernian collected three big points on Wednesday at Aberdeen as the club secured a 2-1 win over the Dons to move five points clear of the bottom of the SPL table with two games to go.

Hibs jumped out to a two-goal lead in the opening 20 minutes after an own goal from Aberdeen's Mark Reynolds was followed by a strike from Sean O'Hanlon.

Scott Vernon pulled one back early in the second half for Aberdeen, but Hibs survived some late pressure to hang on for the vital win.

Inverness 0, Dunfermline 0

Inverness, Scotland - Dunfermline's relegation fears worsened on Wednesday after a 0-0 draw at Inverness that leaves the club on the bottom of the league by five points with two games remaining.

The result was enough for Inverness to secure its safety, while Dunfermline was fortunate to claim a point and faces a real struggle for survival.

Dunfermline visits Hibernian on Monday and must win the match to have any hope at staying up.

St. Mirren 2, Kilmarnock 0

Kilmarnock, Scotland - St Mirren used a pair of goals in the first half to secure a 2-0 road win against Kilmarnock on Wednesday.

It took Paul McGowan just nine minutes to hand the visitors the lead before Steven Thompson doubled the advantage on the stroke of halftime.

Killie had a chance to get back into the game in the 55th minute when Dean Shiels stepped to the penalty spot after a handball, but St Mirren goalkeeper Craig Samson produced a save to keep the hosts off the scoreboard.
