After being held to a 0-0 draw at Gil Vicente on the opening weekend of the season, defending champions FC Porto responded with a comfortable 4-0 victory against Guimaraes on Saturday.

Porto jumped out to the lead in the 16th minute on home soil as Lucho Gonzalez tallied the first of his two goals, while the second strike didn't arrive until the 66th minute.

It came courtesy of Hulk, while Gonzalez scored again five minutes later and Jackson Martinez netted the fourth goal from the penalty spot to help Porto claim three big points.

Benfica also finished in a draw to start its season, and like Porto, responded with a convincing victory on Sunday against Setubal.

The match was made much easier for Benfica after Setubal had Amoreirinha sent off in the eighth minute.

From there, Benfica dominated as Rodrigo scored once in each half while Eduardo Salvio, Enzo Perez and Nolito each tallied a goal in the 5-0 win.

On Friday, David Silva scored with 22 minutes to play as Olhanense claimed a 1-1 draw at Academica, while Saturday's other match saw Ruben Micael score a pair of first-half goals to lead Braga to a 3-1 win over Beira Mar.

Moreirense topped Nacional, 3-1, behind two goals from Nabil Ghilas, Pacos Ferreira and Estoril finished 1-1 in a match that saw Pacos end the game with nine men, Gil Vicente and Maritimo played to a 0-0 draw and Sporting Lisbon was tripped up by Rio Ave, 1-0, as Edimar Fraga tallied the lone goal in the 40th minute.
