Pirates OF McCutchen claims National League monthly honor

New York, NY – Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen has been voted the National League Player of the Month for the month of June.

In 27 games in June, McCutchen hit .370 with seven home runs and 26 RBI. He led the National League with 40 hits and tied Robinson Cano for the major league lead with 73 total bases.

McCutchen, who was named to his second straight All-Star team on Sunday, leads National League center fielders with a .346 average, 15 home runs, 51 RBI, a .401 on-base percentage and a .593 slugging percentage.

This is the first monthly award for the 25-year-old and the first time a Pirate has won the honor since Jason Bay was the National League Player of the Month for May 2006.

Arizona's Aaron Hill and Paul Goldschmidt, Cincinnati's Joey Votto, Milwaukee's Ryan Braun, New York's Ike Davis and Atlanta's Jason Heyward also received votes for the award.
