Person familiar with move confirms to AP that Buffalo Sabres release F Linus Omark

A person familiar with the move has confirmed the Buffalo Sabres' decision to release forward Linus (LEE-nus) Omark by placing him on unconditional waivers.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the Sabres have not announced their decision, which came a week after Omark declined to report to Buffalo's AHL affiliate in Rochester. TSN of Canada first reported the move on Monday.

Omark, who is from Sweden, cleared waivers on Tuesday and is expected to pursue his career in Europe.

Omark had two assists in 13 games with the Sabres. The 2007 fourth-round draft pick was regarded a disappointment after Buffalo gave up a conditional sixth-round draft pick in a trade with Edmonton on Dec. 19.

Buffalo waived Omark on Feb. 7 with the intention of demoting him to Rochester.
