Morgantown, WV (SportsNetwork.com) - Devin Williams scored 14 points and No. 20 West Virginia got revenge for its worst loss of the season and knocked off Texas, 71-64.
Jonathan Holton and Daxter Miles Jr. added 12 points apiece for West Virginia, which has won three straight and ended a four-game drought against Texas.
The Longhorns held WVU to 24.1 percent shooting in their 77-50 blowout on Jan. 17, but it was a different story on Tuesday.
The Mountaineers (22-6, 10-5 Big 12) shot 42.3 percent from the floor and 20- of-23 from the free throw line in this one. They led by 13 points with seven minutes to play before a furious Texas rally, eight straight points in less than 1 1/2 minutes, made things interesting.
Texas got as close as three on Demarcus Holland's triple with 30 seconds left, but WVU scored the game's final four points.
Holland scored 14 points in his first game this season as a reserve, and Isaiah Taylor posted 13 with six assists for the Longhorns (17-11, 6-9).
Four Texas turnovers before the first media timeout led to six WVU points, and the Mountaineers owned an early 8-2 lead. All four WVU baskets were assisted and came in the paint.
"In the first half we had 14 made baskets, 11 assisted I believe," said WVU coach Bob Huggins. "We passed the ball."
The pressure then led to a 10-0 run, as West Virginia took advantage of three consecutive turnovers and a Jonathan Holmes' missed 3 during the flurry that stretched the lead to 14.
It reached 18 following Holton's 3-ball at 3:49, but the Longhorns dominated the next six-plus minutes to make a game of it.
Kendal Yancy and Holmes hit back-to-back 3s to jumpstart a 19-5 run, which Cameron Ridley capped with a dunk. The burst brought the Longhorns all the way back to being down just 38-34.
They got as close as 40-38 before Jevon Carter and Holton hit 3-pointers to bookend a 13-2 run. That lead helped West Virginia overcome Texas' late push.
