Nashville, TN – Red Bull New York forward Juan Agudelo tore the meniscus in his left knee Thursday playing for the U.S. Under-23 Olympic team, it was announced Saturday.
Agudelo will rejoin Red Bull New York to consult team physicians, according to a U.S. press release. The U.S. defeated Cuba on Thursday in Olympic qualifying 6-0. Per tournament rules, the U.S. cannot replace Agudelo on the roster.
The 19-year-old Agudelo started Red Bull New York's season opener, a 2-1 loss to FC Dallas. He missed the club's second match, a 2-0 loss at Real Salt Lake, after joining the U-23 team.
Agudelo has played 15 times for the U.S. senior team and scored twice.
