The Washington Nationals optioned starting pitcher Nathan Karns to Double-A Harrisburg and selected the contract of pitcher Ross Ohlendorf from Triple-A Syracuse.

Over three starts with Washington this season, Karns compiled a 0-1 record and 7.50 earned run average. The right-hander gave up 17 hits and 10 earned runs over 12 innings.

Ohlendorf, 30, last appeared in the majors with San Diego in 2012 and finished that season with a 4-4 mark and 7.77 ERA. The fellow righty has a 4-5 record with Syracuse this year over 13 games, including 12 starts.

The team also transferred pitcher Christian Garcia to the 60-day disabled list.
