The Seattle Mariners placed veteran reliever George Sherrill on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 10, with a strained flexro bundle in his left elbow.

Sherrill, who signed a contract to return to Seattle in late December, gave up six hits and four runs over 1 1/3 relief innings in two appearances this season.

The 34-year-old left-hander appeared in 51 games with the Atlanta Braves last season, going 3-1 with a 3.00 earned run average. He ended the 2011 campaign on the 15-day disabled list with left elbow inflammation.

To fill the roster spot, the Mariners recalled pitcher Charlie Furbush from Triple-A Tacoma. Furbush is 1-0 in four innings over two games in 2012.
