Drake University announced Wednesday the hiring of Brad McCaslin as defensive coordinator of the football program.

McCaslin has spent the last 14 seasons as an assistant at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, including the last six as the Mavericks' defensive coordinator. He also served as associate head coach in his final four seasons.

Nebraska-Omaha has since dropped its football program.

McCaslin is joining a Drake program that shared the 2011 Pioneer Football League championship with San Diego.

"Brad is a great fit for us here at Drake, as he is a man of great character and a proven winner," Drake head coach Chris Creighton said. "Our defense has been strong the last four years, and under Coach McCaslin's leadership we expect to get even better."
