Chelsea left it late against Manchester United as Juan Mata's goal three minutes from time earned the Blues a 1-0 victory over the champions at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The win sees Chelsea strengthen its bid for Champions League football next season as the Blues climb up to third place with 68 points.

The play was largely uninspiring and it looked as if the two sides were heading for a scoreless draw until Mata's strike in the 87th minute.

Chelsea committed men forward and Oscar picked out Mata on the left side of the box. The Spain international settled the ball and fired a low shot that took a deflection off of Phil Jones on its way past Anders Lindegaard.

The match went even further south for United in the dying moments when Rafael was issued a straight red card for kicking out at David Luiz.

Liverpool 0, Everton 0

Liverpool, England - Everton and Liverpool split the points at Anfield on Sunday as the two sides played to a 0-0 draw.

The Toffees came closest to breaking the deadlock when Sylvain Distin had a goal disallowed for an apparent push by Victor Anichebe in the build-up.

The two sides remain separated by five points as Everton, winless at Anfield since 1999, climbs to 60 points.
