Dusseldorf, Germany (SportsNetwork.com) - Fifth seed Yen-Hsun Lu and eighth- seeded Igor Sijsling were knocked out at the Dusseldorf Open on Monday.
Wild card and German favorite Dustin Brown dismissed Lu 7-6 (7-3), 6-2, while Czech Jiri Vesely doused the Dutchman Sijsling in 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 fashion at Rochusclub.
Also on Day 2, Austrian Jurgen Melzer drubbed Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta 6-4, 6-1, Russian Teymuraz Gabashvili overcame Serb Dusan Lajovic 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 and Serbian wild card Nikola Milojevic snuck past Bosnian qualifier Mirza Basic 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 in the first round.
The top-four seeds -- German Philipp Kohlschreiber, Spaniard Marcel Granollers, Italian Andreas Seppi and Portuguese Joao Sousa -- for this final French Open tune-up each received byes into the second round. Kohlschreiber will open up against Gabashvili.
Argentine Juan Monaco captured the inaugural title a year ago by besting Finnish left-hander Jarkko Nieminen in the final.
