Second seed Feliciano Lopez and promising Aussie Bernard Tomic were among Thursday's second-round winners at the $525,000 BMW Open, a clay-court French Open tuneup.

The Spanish lefthander Lopez straight-setted Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), while a fifth-seeded Tomic edged out Italian Potito Starace 6-1, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3 at Iphitos Tennis Club.

Lopez and the 19-year-old Tomic will do battle in the quarterfinals here on Friday.

In other action on Day 4, fourth-seeded German favorite Philipp Kohlschreiber handled Latvian Ernests Gulbis 7-5, 6-3 and Aussie Marinko Matosevic snuck past Colombian fellow qualifier Robert Farah 6-1, 6-7 (2-7), 6-2.

The 2007 Munich champion Kohlschreiber and Matosevic will square off on Friday.

The other quarterfinals will pit third-seeded Croat Marin Cilic against sixth- seeded Russian Mikhail Youzhny and eighth-seeded Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis versus oft-injured German star Tommy Haas, who was a runner-up in Munich in 2000. Youzhny titled here in 2010 and is a two-time Munich runner-up. He beat Cilic in the finale here two years ago.

This week's winner will earn $95,000.
