Lehigh guard C.J. McCollum fractured the fifth metatarsal in his left foot and is expected to miss the next 8-10 weeks, the school confirmed on Sunday.

McCollum, who is currently No. 2 in the nation in scoring with 23.9 points per game, sustained the injury in the first half of Lehigh's 59-55 loss on Saturday at VCU.

"We are going to make sure C.J. is fully recovered and will place the highest priority on quality of care," Lehigh coach Brett Reed said in a statement through the school. "We'll be certain the injury has healed properly before full activity is resumed. C.J. is a wonderful leader and he'll continue to help the team in every way possible. He has a bright future of basketball ahead of him."

The estimated recovery time leaves the door open for McCollum to return for the final game of the regular season or the Patriot League tournament, depending on the healing process.

The senior guard, best known for scoring 30 points to lead 15th-seeded Lehigh in a first-round upset of No. 2 Duke in the 2012 NCAA Tournament, is a projected first-round pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.
