Kent State is retiring Joshua Cribbs' No. 9 jersey, honoring the Cleveland Browns' star who played quarterback for the Golden Flashes.

The school will retire Cribbs' number during halftime of Kent State's game against Ball State on Oct. 30.

Cribbs, who holds the NFL record with eight kickoff returns for touchdowns, set several marks during his four seasons (2001-04) at Kent. He holds the career passing record with 7,169 yards, and is the in rushing touchdowns, completions, attempts, total yards, points and touchdowns.

He joins Hall of Famer Jack Lambert (No. 99), Jim Corrigall (No. 79) and Eric Wilkerson (No. 40) as the only players in Kent's 88-year football history to have their number retired.

Cribbs finished his degree from Kent State last spring.
