Monterrey, Mexico (SportsNetwork.com) - Defending champion Ana Ivanovic was an easy quarterfinal winner, while second-seeded Sara Errani had a bit tougher time advancing during Friday's play at the Monterrey Open tennis event.

The top-seeded Ivanovic needed just an hour to dispose of Kristina Mladenovic by a 6-3, 6-2 score on the hardcourts of the Sierra Madre Tennis Club.

Next up for the 2008 French Open champion will be Timea Bacsinszky. The fourth-seeded Swiss, fresh off a surprising title in Acapulco last week, moved into the semis with a 6-4, 6-2 decision over qualifier Urszula Radwanska.

Errani trailed late in the first set of her match with No. 5 seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, but rallied to down the three-time Monterrey champ 7-5, 6-4.

Pavlyuchenkova entered Friday's match 17-0 all-time at this event, having won the tournament in 2010, 2011 and 2013.

Errani will next take on third-seeded Caroline Garcia, who won the first set 7-5 against Magdalena Rybarikova before the Slovakian was forced to retire.

This year's Monterrey champ will earn $111,389.
