Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - The Cleveland Indians activated designated hitter Jason Giambi from the 15-day disabled list prior to Monday's game against the Kansas City Royals.
Giambi, back from a non-displaced rib fracture he sustained in a spring training game in early March, will start and bat seventh in Monday's opener of a four-game series with the Royals.
The 20-year veteran batted just .183 over 71 games for Cleveland last season, but homered nine times in 186 at-bats and hit .271 with runners in scoring position.
Reliever Blake Wood was optioned to Triple-A Columbus in a corresponding move. The right-hander had allowed five runs and walked seven batters in 6 1/3 innings spanning seven appearances.
