Fred Hunter scored 23 points and Dantrell Thomas added 21 as hot-shooting Nicholls State trounced Lamar 90-63 Thursday night to sweep the season series.

The Colonels (9-19, 8-9 Southland Conference), who came in having lost seven of their past nine games, shot 59.4 percent (19 of 32) in the first half. Leading 18-17, they blew the game open with a 29-4 run, going into halftime ahead 47-21.

The Cardinals made only 9 of 20 field goals before the break.

Hunter finished 9 of 11 from the field, Thomas was 8 of 12 and JaMarkus Horace made 8 of 11 to finish with 16 points.

Nicholls State had a 56-36 advantage in the paint and scored 27 points off 20 Lamar turnovers.

Rhon Mitchell scored 15 points and Donley Minor added 14 to lead the Cardinals (3-27, 1-16), who have lost seven straight, including 74-63 to the Colonels on Feb. 19.
