Sandy, UT – David Ferreira scored in the fourth minute of stoppage time to hand FC Dallas a surprising 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday.
A scoreless first half that sorely lacked scoring chances was followed by an exciting final 30 minutes as Ferreira set up the opening goal for Fabian Castillo shortly after the hour mark, and netted the dramatic winning goal in added time after Alvaro Saborio had equalized for the home side in the 76th minute.
The win is the third straight for Dallas, while RSL has lost its last three games, but remains within five points of the top spot in the Western Conference thanks to a San Jose defeat at the hands of Montreal earlier on Saturday.
After a forgettable first 45 minutes that lacked any real flow, the game came to life following halftime.
The first good chance was a Saborio header that narrowly missed the net from a Javier Morales free kick.
Dallas failed to record a shot on goal in the first 60 minutes, but in the 61st the Hoops went in front as Castillo took a pass from Ferreira and cut inside before firing a shot off the far post and in.
Saborio answered in the 76th with his 14th goal of the campaign as he nodded home a Morales corner kick to pull RSL back to level terms.
But just when it looked like each team would settle for a point apiece, Dallas made the most of its last chance as Brek Shea's pass allowed Ferreira to finish off a counter-attack move and help Dallas steal three points.
