Falque's double fires Genoa past Atalanta

Bergamo, Italy (SportsNetwork.com) - Iago Falque scored a second-half double on Sunday as Genoa rolled to a comfortable 4-1 rout of Atalanta at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia.

Heading down the stretch of the Serie A season, Genoa found itself battling for a Europa League place in the table and were aiming to stay in that spot over the next two games. Sunday's result went a long way toward helping the club achieve that goal.

Things started poorly for Genoa, however as Mauricio Pinilla fired home a penalty kick to give Atalanta the lead after 18 minutes of play.

But Genoa seized control of the match from the half-hour mark as Leonardo Pavoletti scored to pull things level and Andrea Bertolacci gave the visitors the lead in the 57th minute.

Falque then got into the scoring mood when he netted his first of the day just past the hour mark and completed the double in the 73rd minute.

The result keeps Genoa in fifth place in the Serie A with 56 points and two matches remaining on the docket, while Atalanta is in 17th place, but well clear of the bottom three.

Also in Serie A on Sunday, Roma reclaimed second place in Serie A with a 2-1 win over Udinese at the Stadio Olimpico.

Udinese struck first through a goal from Stipe Perica in the 19th minute, but the home side pulled level on the stroke of halftime through Radja Nainggolan before Vasilios Torosidis bagged the winning goal with 25 minutes to play.

The result moves Roma to 67 points with two matches remaining, one better than third place Lazio.

Domenico Berardi netted a hat trick as Sassuolo edged nine-man AC Milan, 3-2, at the Stadio Citta del Tricolore, while Franco Vazquez's ninth-minute strike held up as the winner, giving Palermo a 1-0 result over Cagliari.

Hellas Verona grabbed a 2-1 win over Empoli courtesy of goals from Vangelis Moras and Jacopo Sala, while Maxi Lopez scored a pair of goals to hand Torino a 2-0 win against Chievo.
