Originally opened in August 1980, Poznan Municipal Stadium was renovated from 2003-10. The renovation included the addition of four new covered seating areas, and cost nearly $240 million. The stadium can seat up to 43,269 for non-UEFA matches.

Renovated Poznan Municipal Stadium opened in September 2010 with a concert by British singer Sting, and club team Lech Poznan made its debut in the stadium - the sixth home for the club in its 90-year history - later that month with a 2-0 win over Red Bull Salzburg in the Europa League.

Spain's Under-19 team captured the 2006 Euro U-19 title at the stadium, which hosted its first senior international in November 2010. Robert Lewandowski, a star for reigning two-time Bundesliga champion Borussia Dortmund, scored twice as Poland defeated the Ivory Coast in that friendly.

The stadium will host three Euro 2012 Group C matches, including two featuring four-time World Cup champion (1934, 1938, 1982 and 2006) and Euro 1968 winner Italy.
