Ottawa, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Greg Eason will attempt to go wire-to-wire after firing a 1-under 70 on Saturday to extend his lead to three shots through 54 holes at the Forces and Families Open.
Eason, who has held the lead through the first three rounds, is at 15-under 199 for the week as he looks for his first win on the PGA Tour Canada. His best finish came at the Staal Foundation Open, where he ended in second.
Kelvin Day shot up the leaderboard following his third-round, 5-under 66 and he is now tied for second at 11-under 202 at Hylands Golf Club. He is joined there by Jordan Krantz, Peter Campbell and Jeff Dennis. Krantz and Campbell carded matching 67s, while Dennis ended with a 70.
Mike Ballo (67), Sam Ryder (68), Ryan Brehm (70) and Daniel McCarthy (70) will head into the final round four shots back at minus-10. They are tied for sixth place.
Like Day, Alexis Anghert also shot a 66 and he is tied with Dan Buchner (69), Paul Ferrier (70) and Travis Ross (71) at minus-9.
Entering the day one shot ahead of Eugene Wong, Eason quickly extended that lead to three with a birdie at one paired with Wong's bogey. Eason dropped shots at four and six, however, and he was at 1-over on the day.
Eason responded with a gain at No. 8 to get back to even par, and he made the turn with a par at No. 9.
Following four straight pars from 10, Eason got back into red numbers with a birdie at the par-5 15th. He rolled in another birdie at 17, but tripped to his third bogey of the round at No. 18 to end at minus-14 through 54 holes.
Krantz was the only player to catch Eason at one point on Saturday. Starting the day six shots back of the lead, Krantz made birdies at two, four and eight to get to 3-under. He made a bogey at No. 9, but quickly atoned for that mistake with another gain at 10.
Back-to-back birdies at 13 and another one at the par-4 16th had Krantz in a tie for first with Eason at minus-13. However, Krantz made a mess of the par-4 18th and settled for double-bogey to finish at minus-4 for the day.
Day also added three birdies on the front nine at one, five and six, but he too bogeyed one at No. 8. Day drained three birdies in four holes at 10, 11 and 13 to get to minus-5. He traded a birdie at 17 with a bogey at 18 to finish at 11-under through 54 holes.
Campbell made five birdies to go along with one bogey in his round, while Dennis made just three gains and bogeyed two for his 70.
NOTES: After setting the course record with a 61 on Friday, Wong stumbled to a 4-over 75 and he is six shots off the lead at 8-under 205, tied for 14th ... Krantz, Day, Dennis and Campbell also have never won on tour ... Eason's other top-10 finish of the season came at the Syncrude Boreal Open, where he ended tied for fifth ... Seann Harlingten finished his 54 holes at minus-10, but he was disqualified.
