Davie, FL – The Miami Dolphins officially terminated the contract of cornerback Richard Marshall on Wednesday.
Reports surfaced Tuesday night that the Dolphins had cut Marshall, who posted on his Twitter account that he appreciated the opportunity but it was time to move on.
Marshall signed a three-year, $16 million contract in March 2012. He was set to make $4.55 million in base salary this season.
The 28-year-old Marshall played in just four games last season due to a back injury.
The Fresno State product apparently wasn't going to win the competition for a starting cornerback job. Marshall's departure suggests veteran Dimitri Patterson will get the starting cornerback job opposite Brent Grimes.
In 100 career games with the Panthers, Cardinals and Dolphins, Marshall has 517 tackles, seven sacks and 18 interceptions.
