Glendale, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed pitcher Freddy Garcia to a minor league contract.
Garcia spent the 2014 season in Taiwan after being released by the Atlanta Braves in spring training. He appeared in six games for the Braves toward the end of the 2013 season and made the start in Game 4 of the NL Division Series against the Dodgers in October.
The 38-year-old right-hander was an All-Star in consecutive seasons with Seattle in 2001 and 2002, and helped the Chicago White Sox win a World Series title in 2005.
Garcia has a career record of 156-108 with a 4.15 ERA in 376 major league games, including 357 starts. In addition to the Mariners, White Sox and Braves, he has also pitched for Philadelphia, Detroit, the Yankees and Baltimore.
The Dodgers also acquired utilityman Elliot Johnson from the Texas Rangers in exchange for cash considerations.
Johnson has played for Tampa Bay, Kansas City, Atlanta and Cleveland in parts of five big league seasons. He is a .215 hitter in 318 games.
