Flushing, NY – R.A. Dickey went the distance and Andres Torres fell a single shy of the cycle as the New York Mets avoided a sweep with a 6-1 decision over Miami in the finale of a three-game set.
Dickey (15-3) scattered five hits and one run, fanning 10 to record his fourth complete game of the season.
Torres finished 3-for-3, drove in three and scored twice for the Mets, who snapped a nine-game losing streak at home, longest since moving to Citi Field in 2009.
"That nine-game streak that was stopped today is more important than that 15th win," Dickey said.
Justin Ruggiano's solo homer was the lone output for the Marlins. Jose Reyes saw his 26-game hit streak come to an end after an 0-for-4 performance as Miami completed an 11-game road trip with a 4-7 record.
"Jose, he had a great run. Hopefully he makes another one happen pretty soon," Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen said.
Josh Johnson (7-8) took the loss, charged with eight hits and three runs over six full frames.
New York snapped a 14-inning scoreless streak in the home second, as Ike Davis singled with one out, Torres walked with two down and Josh Thole followed by driving in Davis with a single.
Ruggiano's one-out homer in the fourth evened the score, but the Mets countered as David Wright began the home half with a double and scored on a Torres Tobago.
The hosts took a 3-1 edge in the sixth on a two-out solo homer to right by Torres, then assumed a three-run edge in their next turn at the plate on three straight two-out singles -- the last of which, by Wright, scored Mike Baxter.
Torres tacked on a run-scoring triple on a ball that rebounded hard off the top of the right-field wall in the eighth, then came home on a Thole base hit.
From Ruggiano's one-out base hit in the sixth, only one Miami runner reached base through the completion of the game -- Bryan Peterson, who struck out to start the eighth but reached on a wild-pitch third strike.
