Zurich, Switzerland – With plenty of activity in the past month due to World Cup qualifying, there were numerous changes in this month's edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola Men's World Rankings, which were released on Wednesday.
Spain and Germany remain in the top two places respectively, while Portugal (3rd, up 1) and Argentina (4th, up 3) both moved a bit closer to the leaders.
England (5th, down 2), Uruguay (7th, down 2) and Italy (8th, down 2) each moved down a few places inside the top 10, while Colombia (9th, up 13) made a big jump to ninth place after winning South American qualifiers against Chile and Uruguay.
A number of other sides made significant strides as Norway (26th, up 8), Belgium (30th, up 10), Peru (37th, up 14) and Venezuela (39th, up 13) each got big boosts, while Denmark (18th, down 8), Australia (34th, down 9) and Slovenia (35th, down 11) were among the teams to suffer sizable drops.
The United States (32nd, up 1) moved up one place but still trails CONCACAF rivals Mexico (19th, up 2).
The next edition of the rankings will be released on Wednesday, Nov. 7.
