The St. Louis Cardinals announced on Tuesday that the club has extended their affiliation with the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds.

The new deal keeps Memphis in the fold for two more years, through the 2014 season.

"We are very pleased to have extended our relationship with the Redbirds organization and the city of Memphis for an additional two years," Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said. "The Redbirds ballclub and the Memphis fans have been tremendous supporters of the Cardinals organization for many years...and we feel that there is no better place to develop Cardinals players who are one level away from reaching St. Louis and the Major Leagues."

The Cardinals and Memphis first became affiliated in 1998 when the Redbirds began play in the Pacific Coast League. The minor-league team plays in AutoZone Park in downtown Memphis, having moved from Tim McCarver Stadium after the 1999 season.
