Boston Bruins honor police officer injured during marathon bomber manhunt

BOSTON – The Boston Bruins are honoring a police officer who was injured in the manhunt for the Boston Marathon bomber.

Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority Officer Richard "Dic" Donohue left the hospital for the night to serve as honorary banner captain before Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday. Donohue's wife wheeled him out to the ice before the game. He was shown on the scoreboard and given a big cheer as he waved a Bruins flag.

Donohue's femoral artery was severed when he was shot during a gunfight with the Tsarnaev brothers. He is still being treated at a rehab center, but he hopes to be released soon.

Donohue wore a Bruins jersey with a "Boston Strong" patch. His wife, Kim, wore a memorial card with a picture of MIT officer Sean Collier, who was killed by the bombing suspects.
