Boca Juniors have fired coach Carlos Bianchi, the most successful coach in the club's history.

Club president Daniel Angelici made the announcement on Thursday, saying it was "painful to rescind the contract." He said it was a unanimous decision of club directors.

Boca hired Bianchi in December 2012, his third stint in charge of one of Argentina's most famous clubs — and one with a demanding fan base.

The team has only taken three points out of a possible 12 in the early season and has not won a title since Bianchi returned to the club.
