New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson was suspended three games without pay by the National Hockey League on Wednesday.

Johnson was cited for an illegal check to the head of Carolina Hurricanes forward Jiri Tlusty during the third period of Tuesday night's game.

The 27-year-old will forfeit $70,276.50 to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Johnson will be eligible to return to the Columbus lineup on Nov. 14 against Philadelphia. He will begin serving his suspension on Friday when the Blue Jackets finish off a home-and-home set with Carolina.
