Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Pitcher Joe Blanton is back in the majors after the Kansas City Royals selected his contract from Triple-A Omaha.

Blanton, 34, was released by the Angels after spring training in 2014 and announced his retirement after making two poor starts for Triple-A Sacramento in the Oakland organization. He signed a minor league deal with Kansas City in February and had a 3.89 ERA in seven appearances (six starts) for the Storm Chasers.

In his last major league action, Blanton pitched to a 2-14 record and 6.04 ERA with the Angels in 2013. The right-hander is 85-89 with a 4.51 ERA in 265 career games (248 starts) with the Athletics, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers and Angels.

In corresponding moves, Kansas City added left-handed pitcher Brian Flynn to the 60-day disabled list and optioned right-handed pitcher Aaron Brooks to Omaha.
