BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Steve Stirling, an assistant coach with the American Hockey League's Binghamton Senators, underwent successful quadruple bypass surgery on Sunday.
The native of Clarkson, Ont., was at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton, N.Y., when he began to experience chest pains Sunday afternoon.
He was then taken to UHS Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, N.Y., where the bypass surgery was performed.
Binghamton currently leads the AHL's Calder Cup final 3-2 over the Houston Aeros. Stirling will not travel to Houston for the remaining games of the series.
Binghamton is the AHL farm team of the Ottawa Senators.
