Kohlschreiber titled here in 2007 and 2012 and was a runner-up in 2013.

Estrella Burgos will meet Bautista Agut in the quarterfinals, while Goffin will encounter Kohlschreiber.

A first-round match on Wednesday saw Spaniard Pablo Andujar dismiss Brazilian Joao Souza 6-4, 6-4. Andujar is fresh off his runner-up finish in Barcelona.

On Thursday, top-seeded Andy Murray will open his first-ever Munich stay with a second-round affair against German qualifier Mischa Zverev.

The Australian Open runner-up Murray has not played since a loss to Novak Djokovic in the Miami final earlier this month and will take the court for the first time as a married man following his wedding two weeks ago.
