Federal prosecutors have filed charges against the judge who once presided over the insider trading trial of former billionaire Eike Batista for allegedly embezzling more than $350,000 seized from a suspected drug trafficker in a separate case.

The prosecutors filed the charges against Judge Flavio Roberto de Souza on Monday in Rio de Janeiro. They allege that the judge destroyed documents pertaining to the assets seized from the trafficker so he could use the money for himself.

They said Souza used the money to buy a bulletproof vehicle and an apartment in Rio de Janeiro.

Souza was removed from the Eike Batista trial last week after he was allegedly caught driving a Porsche he'd ordered seized from the fallen magnate.
