Dangerous tornados tear through Midwest in middle of night
Jefferson City, Missouri is in disaster mode as people are trapped in their homes while three people have been killed in Carl Junction.
On the heels of damaging tornadoes overnight, a boundary stretching from the Plains through the Midwest and to the Northeast will be the focus for more severe weather today and tonight. We’ll be monitoring 2 areas – the interior Northeast and northern Mid-Atlantic, as well as a new round of severe storms from the Texas Panhandle through western Oklahoma into Kansas. Large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes are possible across both of these regions. A better chance for stronger tornadoes exists across the Texas Panhandle into Oklahoma, but a few tornadoes across the Northeast are also possible. The severe threat continues Friday across the Plains and Midwest.

Flooding remains the other big weather story today and into this weekend. Already-saturated ground across the Central U.S. won’t need much more rainfall to produce additional significant flooding, which is already in progress for some.

Meanwhile, temperatures across the Southeast into the Tennessee River Valley will be on the hot side as we move into Friday and the weekend; 10-15 degrees above average.
