Night are often long and depressing on Los Angeles' Skid Row.

Even in one of America's most marginal neighborhoods, however, there are little bits of joy to be found if you know where to look.

One of the places is the Central City Community Church of the Nazarene, where Wednesday night is "Karaoke Night."

For 17 years, Pastor Tony Stallworth has been inviting people in to croon to everything from rock to gospel, to country and R&B.

On a recent night, some 200 folks, including several pushing shopping carts filled with belongings, dropped by.

Along with free coffee, there was applause for everyone brave enough to grab a microphone.

Stallworth, who himself loves to sing, says he's found music helps get even the most downtrodden back on a better path.
