Just hours after a massive fire spread to several structures in downtown Baltimore, a second large blaze broke out nearby.

Firefighters began battling the second blaze early Tuesday morning. Officials say they have been able to extinguish the flames.

The fire tore through two buildings in the city's cultural district, causing heavy damage to restaurants and offices.

On Monday, just a few miles away in the city's adult-entertainment district, firefighters grappled with a blaze that spread quickly and sent thick smoke billowing throughout downtown. That fire started in a three-story building, then spread to five or six structures.

Officials are investigating what caused both fires but do not think they are related.
