Wood named Florida A&M football coach

Tallahassee, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Florida A&M named University of Buffalo offensive coordinator Alex Wood as its new football coach on Tuesday.

Wood has more than 30 years of coaching experience at the high school, collegiate and professional levels. He had led Buffalo's offense since 2011 and was 2-2 this past season when he replaced Jeff Quinn, who was fired, as interim head coach.

Wood also was the head coach at James Madison from 1995-98, finishing 23-22 overall, including a trip to the FCS (then Division I-AA) playoffs in his first season.

Among his coaching stops, Wood served as the running backs coach at the University of Miami from 1989-93, helping the team win a pair of national championships.

Wood replaces Earl Holmes, who was fired by Florida A&M after a 2-6 start this past season. Holmes was replaced on an interim basis by Corey Fuller, and the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference program finished 3-9.
