Wells makes MLB return with San Diego

Houston, TX – It's been almost three years since Kip Wells pitched in a major league game, but he will get another chance on Tuesday when he starts for the San Diego Padres.

Wells, signed to a minor league contract on May 8, went 1-4 with a 4.97 earned run average in seven starts for Triple-A Tucson. He last appeared in the majors on October 1, 2009 with the Reds, allowing five runs in a two-inning start.

Wells, 35, was a first-round pick in 1998 and spent time with the White Sox, Pirates, Rangers, Royals, Rockies, Cardinals, Reds and Nationals. He has a career record of 67-99 with a 4.71 ERA.

San Diego also recalled pitcher Nick Vincent from Double-A San Antonio while optioning infielder Andy Parrino and pitcher Brad Boxberger to Tucson. Pitcher Joe Wieland was transferred to the 60-day disabled list.
