Eden Prairie, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - The Minnesota Vikings placed running back Jerick McKinnon on injured reserve Saturday.

McKinnon took over as Minnesota's starting tailback as a rookie as a result of Adrian Peterson's suspension and the ineffectiveness of Matt Asiata.

The third-round draft pick out of Georgia Southern currently leads the team in rushing with 538 yards on 113 carries (4.8 ypc) but did not find the end zone.

McKinnon missed last week's game against the Panthers because of a lower back injury and had already been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Jets.

Asiata, Joe Banyard and the newly-signed Ben Tate are expected to split carries out of the backfield.

In other roster moves, the Vikings signed defensive end Justin Trattou to the active roster from the practice squad and signed safety Ahmad Dixon to the practice squad.
